Merry Christmas

The past 10 days have been filled with laughs and anticipation that lead up to finding our stocking, stuffed with fun things under the tree this morning.

To start the Christmas events, mom took us on a walk to see Christmas lights in the neighborhood last night. Deuce and Jack walked like Kings that ruled the roads and strutted their stuff as mom gazed at the beautiful arrangements that people put in the yard. I just stayed close, cuz walking on a leash in the cold evening hours is not something this little princess is into.

When we woke dad this morning at 0600, he navigates the house without lights and we didn't even consider that there was a new scent coming from the livingroom, but when mom was awake at 8:00 a.m. and the lights were on and the house was alive, Jack tore right into the tree and what did he find ..... cat nip. Wrong stocking there slick.

Being the slow moving, more mature dog that I am, I gracefully stuck my head into the stocking that had tasty dog treats, a lovely hedge hog and some tennis balls. Well, when the young boys discovered the squeek of the hedgehog, they began to scuffle ....this has continued all day....BOYS...you know.

Me, I'm always looking for some kibble, and I found some in that stocking, so I contented myself under the tree and began my feast. It didn't last long, but it was savored.

The rest of the day has been enjoyed with some company. Mistie and Brandon came over and i think i'm Brandon's favorite, don't you know. And then after they left we had a special lunch and a nice nap!

This Christmas out of a cage is pretty nice. Let's do it again next year! Okay.

Merry Christmas all.

10 days til Christmas

10 days until Christmas and all through the house are three frenchies playing, in search of the mouse.
In this case it's Sunday morning and Chilly found the bone, with Jack on looking thinking how do I distract her and get Deuce out of the way so I can have it for a change.
Not to mention the floor filled with other toys, all three have to want the one at the same time. I think this is called "siblings".

Christmas Greetings from Mom

Christmas is always an exciting time of year for me, even growing up I just loved the special feeling of holidays approaching (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's). Well, this will be Chilly's first Christmas out of a crate and Jack's first Christmas at all. So far they are bringing magic and love and spreading cheer to everyone near. Deuce is grateful to have such an energetic playmate, and Chilly is enjoying the sidelines cheering for her brothers.
Deuce is pretty mellow when it comes to the holiday decorations, but Jack is like a child in a toy store. Every new thing discovered has to be tasted and then if it moves, well let the fun begin. Tonight he discovered our "snow village". You know the fake stuff that comes in a bag from Lowes. We have it on the side of the fireplace with a little city set in it. When I noticed it all over the floor I thought he and Deuce were at a tug of war match with a stuffed toy....:( NO! We had fake snow pulled off of the fireplace. A little stuck to the gums and teeth of Jack's mouth. Priceless, but no camera available to capture the moment.
This is my first year of Christmas as an empty nester. I was a bit worried that the house would feel empty come Christmas morning (and it still might) but I think with the frenchies and the huskies destroying their gifts and stockings, it will feel like my house is still filled with Christmas delight.
If I don't talk to you again, Have a Merry Christmas and create memories that you will cherish.
All the best in 2010!!!
Thanks for putting up with me. :)

Holidays are so much fun

The Hutchins' family celebrated Thanksgiving over a two day period. On day one (Thursday) I was introduced to many of the family members. On Friday, I met my cousing Tonka, she's the blue heeler on Alex's lap. I also met Alex and Sydney. You can see from the photo Syd is generous with treats, and you know from earlier posts how we like our treats. This being spoiled business is a ton of fun. Karen started me on this habit and the Hutchins are just continuing on a good tradition. They are a family all about making the animals happy. Well you know, if the animal is happy it makes life much more pleasurable for the humans!
So now that Syd and Alex have visited they talked mom into "putting up the tree". I wasn't quite sure what that was all about, being that I'm still a pup, I have to learn these things. I'm not quite sure what the tree is all about yet, but there is this piece of fabric that is shiny and gold and mom has it spread out on the floor. I think it looks like a fun toy so I try to pull on it and this big green object comes after me every time. Then I hear mom say "Jack, leave the skirt alone." I'm thinking, What is a skirt?
Syd and Alex are a lot of fun. Syd had me outside and couldn't see me in the dark. Alex tried to tell him I wear a night light but I don't think believed her.
I hope you had as much fun during this long weekend as I have had. Time with the family is the greatest!!!
Talk to you soon!

Happy Thanksgiving

Jack, Chilly and I have had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Today I am thankful for having a playful little brother and an older sister that keeps me straight. This is Chilly's first Thanksgiving with the Hutchins clan and Jack's first Thanksgiving ever. I think all around it was a wonderful day.
Jack met Nakita today and that introduction went well. Jack was also introduced to our human sisters, Brittany and Chanel and was visited by Mistie and Brandon. Tomorrow Jack will meet our cousin Tonka and human family members Alex and Sydney. I know he'll steal their hearts like he has the rest of the family.
Pictured here are all three of us after our Thanksgiving nap. We had a great day and we have much to be thankful for, especially the volunteers that were involved in saving our lives and providing us with a good home and great food and wonderful treats on holidays like today.
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving and didn't eat too much.

All is well in our house

Jack and Xander met today!
On a beautiful fall morning in sunny North Carolina Xander and Jack were introduced. They seem to like each other.
Jack is settling into his new home quite nicely.
Today we are thankful for having a large yard to play in.

Have we mentioned we like treats

It may be time to introduce Jack. We'll tell you about him and offer our daily thanks all at once.

Jack is our new baby brother. At five months old he came to our family from St. Louis, Missouri.

We anticipated his arrival for a couple of weeks and we are not disappointed. Mom would change our blog name to Deuce, Chilly and Jack but she doesn't know how. Anyway, you'll see more stories about Jack in the days, weeks and months to come. Its a standing family joke that mom has more pictures of her frenchies than of her daughters, but that is okay. Jack is a ham when it comes to the camera so we are certain you'll see alot of him

Chilly and I are still trying to decide if mom's heart and lap are big enough for three of us. Jack doesn't climb into mom's lap yet, but I see he wants to. He's given mom a kiss and you should have heard her squeel...I don't quite understand all of that excitement.

Today we are thankful for our treats. Chilly can't seem to get enough, she goes into Jack's crate when she thinks no one is watching to see if she can find left overs.

Today's Thanks

Today we're thankful for each other. We're gald we found this family to be with and the three of us are typical siblings...always searching for human attention. Jelous if one has a toy that we want. But I've got your back if you ever need me!

Giving Thanks

Giving thanks today for a great lady in St. Louis. She ok'd our family to have this little brother mom calls Captain Jack. Jack introduced us to deer antlers. Pretty cool treat as far as we're concerned and mom says dad can figure out how to bring some home while he's hunting in the woods.

Today we're also thankful for the sunshine. Our yard has dried up enough that Chilly is comfortable leaving the front porch again. Believe me this is a good thing.

Thanksgiving is still over a week away, so stay tuned to hear other things we are thankful for and the adventures with our new kid brother should be entertaining.

Deuce and Chilly

Jack arrived

Jack has arrived. Believe it or not mom is covered in Frenchies.
This other picture is of Jack playing with Chilly's toy. Chilly didn't mind sharing. Jack came with a pack of toys too, that he is sharing with us.
Having a baby brother is soooo much fun.

Today's thanks

Today we are thankful for dog toys, bones, knots, chewies and treats. We like treats when we go in the crate, we like treats when we do something good, we like treats even if we're naughty.

We like to chill out at the end of the day with our nylabones.

We're thankful for having a warm home and someone to give us those great treats.

Thanks - a time for giving thanks.

Let's see how many people can do this. Every day from now until Thanksgiving, think of one thing that you are thankful for and post it as your status. "Today I am thankful for..." The longer you do it, the harder it gets! Now if you think you can do it then repost this message as your status to invite others to take the challenge, then post what YOU are thankful for today!

Feel free to post your comments and we'll try to come back every day, but at least once a week and offer our thanks.

We are thankful to the thousands of volunteers that give heart, blood, sweat and tears to save animals of all kinds. A special note to the folks at French Bulldog Rescue, Croatan Cat Sanctuary and Rescue, Southern Siberian Rescue, Hero Wagon Train, NC St. Bernard Rescue, Petfinder.com maker, Dr. Sara!!!

Acting like a dog

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted any news. Time certainly goes by when you are having a good time. I can't tell you how great life is here in North Carolina.

As it turns out, I did not make the road trip to Knoxville. Mom saw that it was only 38 degrees and felt I wouldn't be happy. She was right. She came home and said there was snow in the mountains. I would not have enjoyed that much. I've been out here in 55 degrees and mom and dad both discovered I shiver, quickly. We fixed that, I wear a robe when I go outside when it's that cold.

I've learned the pleasure, stress relief and general joy of chewing a bone. I would watch Deuce with his bone for hours and it caught on that maybe this is what makes a happy dog. Deuce is good about sharing, so we switch back and forth. If you see pictures, mine is the pink one, but I am often found with a white one in my mouth.

Oh, Deuce just farted, Oh Stink!!!! Plug you nose, a wild Frenchie is on the loose. Have to go find some fresh air.

Beanie Update

Yup, Mom thinks of me as a beanie baby now....go figure. I'm like a wet noodle if I don't want to do something so I guess that's fitting. But really it's short for Chilly Bean.
Anyway, I'm here to report that having a bigger, younger brother has been good for my spirit, body and mind. He has taught me so many new tricks. I can jump from the ottoman to the chair now, I jump up on mom's legs when she comes home from work, and I've learned to follow him around in the yard to some serious exploring. This is quite intriguing! Siblings aren't half bad.
Life in North Carolina is grand. I love the weather this time of year. Mom's looking for a rain coat though, because I HATE to go in the rain.
I'm getting used to sharing the bed with a cat that is about my size. Minx, have I mentioned her. It took a month before I let her come into the livingroom but she's used to me now and her scent has grown on me so I don't jump on her as soon as she crosses the threshold anymore.
Who knew life with a cat could be entertaining...????
That is all for now. Talk to you again soon, Chilly=bean

We made our first trip to the beach today. And are we spoiled or what??? Mom and dad took us to Petsmart first. Deuce picked out a Halloween toy that he couldn't live without.

The beach was awesome.

Check back soon as our adventures continue.

Traveling plans

Can you believe fall is here already. Can you also believe we haven't posted anything about ourselves in about three weeks. Unheard of!!!! Well, no excuse for that except we've been a lazy bunch around here lately.

With the fall weather, Deuce is back to playing soccer, and I sit on the side lines cheering for him. He always scores more points than mom and dad.

Mom and I are planning a road trip in October and you should see my tail wag at the thought. Mom is trying to visit a French Bulldog coordinator that I met before coming to mom's place, and it will be so much fun for me to take a road trip. Mom's undivided attention for three days, woof woof!

Hope you're enjoy the change of seasons as much as I am. Knowing I won't be as cold this winter makes me cozy and warm on the inside too!

Talk to you soon.

Learning how to play

After being raised in a puppy mill, dogs generally don't have good socialization skills. Chilly hasn't really known how to play when she got here. Mom bought her bones and toys but she never had much interest in them. After watching me carry a bone to my favorite chair, she's catching on. She picks up a bone once in awhile, but has really learned when it's treat time.

Mistie and Brandon visited again yesterday and Chilly gets so excited for company. So do I really. I like jumping into the truck when Brandon opens the door! Well, I had to be the source of some entertainment while they visited and here I am teaching Chilly how to wrestle. She's a pretty fast learner, isn't she?

Catch you later,

Deuce

Unwinding from the week

It's been a hectic week. Mom changed work schedules and we're all trying to get set in the new routine. Today is Saturday and we're undwinding. The weather in NC has cooled off some and here I am relaxing on the back deck.
Spoiled you say???? NO!!! I don't have coffee and cinnamon rolls every day, this is a treat!!!
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend. Mom is home an extra day so I'll have a nice weekend.

Talk to you soon,
Chilly

Although I've been a member of the family for a few weeks now, Mom has been cautious about introducing me to the pack. On Saturday I was able to meet Xander. He's the biggest of the pack, a Siberian rescued from Southern Siberian. He has enjoyed a lot of play time with Deuce in the past and this morning Deuce was upset that he didn't have a soccer playmate, but as you can see, Xander and I became fast friends.

Dad celebrated his birthday and part of that included bringing another feline (that's cat). Her name is Mink. I have yet to see her but I can smell her scent. She's tucked in under mom and dad's bed. I'm sure mom will introduce us some time :)

Hope you have a great day, and I'll be chatting with you again soon.

Chanel's birthday

The whole family was here on Monday night to celebrate Chanel's birthday. They had a party and big dinner and Chilly and I were able to visit with our cousin, Tonka. This was the first time Chilly had a chance to meet Tonka! We had a blast. Here I am chasing her.

To the Rescue

This is Nala. Mom and Dad took my big brother Lucas on a short road trip to do a home check on Saturday morning. (Home check for those non-rescue folks is just a small part of the adoption process. The rescue clubs want to suit the best parents with the dogs/cats, so we do a check of the home to be sure it's a good fit). Well Lucas charmed Meredith and Billy the humans in the pack, and Lady Bug just loved having a high spirited companion in the house, so mom and dad gave a huge thumbs up, and Billy and Meredith went to Raleigh to pick up Nala and give her a real home and family.
Nala was rescued from a Denver, NC puppymill. Remember I said a Puppy mill is not where you want to be. I was the puppymill breeder dog, making puppies, Nala here she was a puppy born in a warehouse filled with dogs.! Thanks to rescues like Southern Siberian Rescue, she found her forever home. Congrats to you Nala. And you live close enough that we may meet personally some day. My cousin Tonka looks like your new sister, Lady Bug. happy kibbles to you. I am lovin' my new forever home and I think you'll be very spoiled where you're at.

By Dawn's Early Light

It's a rare occassion when mom is up before sunrise. That's something she and Chilly have in common, so this morning when she couldn't sleep, Chilly and I enjoyed some private play time! See how well we share toys.
Hope you have a great day!!!

First bath

Mom had to give me a bath last night after work. Embarrassed to admit I had a small accident in the house and sat in it....oops. Anyway, mom is amazed that I'm such a wet noodle. I sat in the sink for my bath and didn't move or make a noise. She just lathered me up and I just sat, all pretty!!!! I didn't shake all over her like Deuce either. Cuz I'm a lady, I waited for her to towel me off and I shook all over the front porch when I was done!!!

Lovin' life in NC....

Riding in the car with boys

It's been a interesting time since I last saw you on Friday. Living the life of a princess isn't bad at all.
Here's Deuce taking off with me in mom's car. The other man in my life, Dad, he spoils me like crazy. He learned that I love treats and bones so he makes sure the grocery cart has them every week.
Deuce learned that I like them too, but if Deuce tries to take them away from me I just nudge his little head and he lets me be.
We're actually getting along well these days. Mom likes having us both in her lap while she reads and Deuce and I are okay with that.
I had some human visitors this week too. Mistie and Brandon came over to visit. Mistie likes to hold me like a doll with my head up next to her neck and she rubs my back while I snort in her ear...it's pure heaven...Brandon keeps Deuce entertained so I don't have to share Mistie's attention. It's awesome.

Dad layin' back on Friday

Dad doesn't agree to a picture being taken very often but I charmed him into it. Look at me on this beautiful Friday evening in the warmth of a North Carolina afternoon. This is the life.
Chilly

These guys are the other resident siberians. Max, the one closes to you in the picture moved with his mom when she got married, Nakita, she's the red and white in the middle, she's our big sister and she keeps watch over all of us. Xander is the big guy on the end. Dad and mom adopted him from Southern Siberian Rescue (like Maxx and Lucas) after they fostered him for a day or two. He's Alex's dog. Nakita was the start of the Siberian craze. Dad and mom were into "cold weather dogs" when they lived in Albany, GA. Really cold there guys, right...Ha~ Actually sibes were out of the norm in the population there and they wanted to be different.
So now you met the kanines. There's a feline in the pack too. Her name is Lilly. She'll have pictures too, I'm sure. Mom stays pretty busy with that camera.
Nice chatting with you,
Chilly and Deuce

This is Lucas. He's dad's siberian. He joined the Hutchins as a "foster" in November. Dad fell in love with him so he became a member of the family in March. In this picture he's taken my toy to enjoy but trust me he didn't have it for long.

Chilly

We help with chores

Mom came home from work early on Thursday and we thought we'd help her make the bed. That's us, laying on the bed while she's doing chores. Stay tuned for more pictures cuz we want to introduce you to the rest of the pack....

I really do have a voice

I surprised dad yesterday afternoon. He came home early from work, mom hadn't arrived yet. I listened to the big dogs and thought I'll try this out too, and I began to bark, and I liked it, so I barked some more. The big dogs seem to quit barking when dad came through the door and said hello so I quited down too....
I heard dad get on the phone can call mom at work. He was so proud of me. He said, "Does Chilly do this when you come home?" Of course Mom said no cuz I've never let her hear my voice.
Mom got her surprise though when the door bell rang...I did it again....Hey for me, I'm fittin' right in.

And those sunglasses I mentioned earlier....mom tried to put a pair on my beautiful face and I didn't want anything to do with it!!! I'll just enjoy the rays as they are. Nice and bright, just like my future.

You guys don't over the do the barking, but do at the appropriate times and the humans will love you too.
Have a good day,
Chilly Bean Princess Pepper....

New Photos

So mom was trying to take photos of the siberians after work, and she had dad taking some awesome pictures of me and Chilly hangin' out but what happened to 80 photos, mom deleted them....off the camera and before download was complete to the computer.

She says we have to start over....the siberians didn't cooperate the first time, you think they want to do this again :( LOL

C ya soon,
Deuce

I'm Chilly. Mom calls me Chilly Princess Pepper, Dad calls me Chilly Bean, and Deuce he just snorts to call me, but I answer to all of those. My name is cuz I don't like the cold. Much like my mom, I moved south, not just for the winter but for always.

So grab a cup of joe, or soda or better yet, have a glass of wine, sit back with your glasses on and catch a glimpse of the good life. That's what I'm livin' now that I have a new forever home and friends like ya'll. See, I can talk like they do down south too.

If you haven't already heard (and word has it mom talks a lot) I'm the newest member of the Hutchins pack in New Bern, NC. I've been a bit of a traveler, starting my life in a mill (short for puppy mill, a place you want to stay away from) in Oklahoma. Then when I was done havin' babies I was livin' a spoiled life in Canada, but someone forgot to mention it gets down right cold up there in the north. Not cold, but snow too....just not the most pleasant surroundings for a princess. My good luck lead me to a group called French Bulldog Rescue and I was having a fun time back in the southern state of Tenessee (I understand mom has a bit of a crush on some Elephants there in Knoxville, but that's another story). Anyway, while I was baskin' in the sun and thawing out from the cold, I landed a forever home [so I thought] with a family in Raleigh, NC. Well things with the family English (you know they're bigger than I am) didn't work out to anyone's liking so FBRN brought me back.

I met my mom at a Cracker Barrel in Smithfield, NC and thought I better make a good impression so I went potty for her while on the leash, then when she attempted to pick me up, I went right on to my back and let her rub my tummy. After a minute she picked me up and I put my big kiss on her cheek. I think that's when she fell head over heals for me. She packed up my belongings and put me in her car and we headed to the "foster" home that I was determined to make my own. Mom says that Sandy knows where she can get one of those nice car seats that I was transported in, so next time I can look out the window. For this ride, I just slept like a baby.

Well, we got home and I immediately went potty outside again. I hear this is a good thing, and I was still working on my good impression. When I looked up on the porch there was the biggest human I'd seen. Hairless too....oh no, I hope he likes me, I thought. And he fell in love at first site. This guy is just a big ol' cuddly bear! He picked me up and carried me inside and let me roam the house and i thought what a cool castle. This is nice.

I met my brother Deuce in the morning. I don't think he liked me at first but I turned on the charm. It took about a week but he realized I wasn't backin' down. I was tired of moving and the sun of NC was shining and I wanted to stay and darn it, I was gonna. Mom gave me the good news on Saturday that her application for me was approved.

So guys, there you have my history...stay tuned for my future, cuz I think I'll need sun glasses, it's lookin' so bright.

I'm Deuce. I came to my mom via a great airline from Oklahoma. My mom had a cousin of mine, Andre', and liked him so well that when she recovered from the loss she sent for me. I arrived at the Raleigh airport in a bag that looked like luggage, and silly woman, she walked right by me. The big guy carrying me had to page mom on the overhead speaker. Embarrassing!!!
Then it was a car ride to our home in New Bern where I've been happily content with anywhere from 3 -4 big brothers and sisters, Siberians named Nakita, Maxx, Xander and Lucas. I was the love of my mom's heart though. SPOILED rotten, and her favorite.
Then one evening she get this call....can you foster a frenchie. Mom gets all excited, not wiggling her tail end like I do but you know, her laugh and excitement..>Well I didn't know what to think.
So about a week ago she tells me "I'm bringing home a little girl and you have to be nice". I'm thinkin' yeah, right. Worried mom couldn't share her lap or her heart I gave this new "foster" quite a hassle at first, but now Chilly and I are friends. Someone who snorts like I do. And she's my size. Hey this isn't so bad after all. Good thing, cuz mom tells me we have Chilly for keeps now.

Welcome to the Deuce and Chilly Blog

I've been writing so many tales of the adventures of my newly adopted Frenchie, I thought I should start a blog. The mother of my former foster Frenchie, Coco, introduced me to this site so I'm giving a shot and hopefully I'll figure out how to use this.

Check in regularly for new photos and stories.
